SHASTA SWEEPS MENDOCINO FOR FIRST TWO WINS OF THE YEAR

REDDING, Calif. – Shasta College's softball team swept Mendocino to pick up its first two wins of the year last week.

The Knights lost the remaining six games of the week to fall to 2-8. McKenzie Carnes went 11 for 21 on the week with six RBIs and Tia Vonderharr had a hit in five of the six games.

Shasta 15, Mendocino 5
The Knights scored in six of the seven innings and racked up 19 hits with every player recording a hit. Kyndall Holleman was the winning pitcher, giving up two runs on 11 hits in six innings. Carnes was 3 for 5 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs, Brooke Blades was 2 for 4 with a home run, a double, two RBIs and three runs; Tia Vonderharr was 2 for 6 with a double and a triple to go with two RBIs, Dakota Smalls was 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs and Calley Rupert was 2 for 5 with two RBIs.

Shasta 11, Mendocino 8 – 9 innings
The Knights exploded for five runs in the ninth inning to complete the sweep, highlighted by Carnes' two-run triple. Blades was the winning pitcher, allowing six runs on 11 hits in the complete game. Carnes was 5 for 6 with four RBIs, Vonderharr was 4 for 6 with a run, Autumn Giannini was 3 for 5 with a double and three runs, Madeline Nightingale was 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs and Veronica Schlapia was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run.

Porterville 10, Shasta 3
The Knights led 2-1 after the first but surrendered four in the bottom of the third and never recovered. Holleman took the loss, giving up seven earned runs on 13 hits in six innings. She finished with six strikeouts. Giannini was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run, Holleman was 2 for 4 with an RBI and Smalls drove in the other Knight run.

Folsom Lake 13, Shasta 3 – 5 innings
The Knights surrendered at least four runs in each of the first three innings. Blades took the loss, giving up 13 runs on 15 hits in four innings. Carnes was 2 for 3 with a run and Holleman, Giannini and Rupert each drove in a run.

Sequoias 6, Shasta 0
Sequoias' Olivia Aguigam threw a perfect game against the Knights, recording 15 strikeouts. Holleman got the loss, giving up three earned runs on 12 hits in six innings.

Solano 7, Shasta 3
The Knights trailed 5-0 until scoring three in the top of the sixth. But Solano scored twice in the bottom half of the frame to get separation. Blades took the loss, giving up six earned runs on eight hits and one strikeout. Blades was 2 for 4 at the plate with an RBI, Giannini and Carnes each had a hit and scored a run and Sophia Valdez drove in a run.
