SHASTA OFFENSE STRUGGLES IN LOSSES TO BUTTE, FEATHER RIVER

REDDING, Calif. – The Shasta College softball team lost a road doubleheader to Butte 5-0 and 4-0 on Thursday and followed it up with a 16-0 home loss to Feather River on Saturday.

The Knights generated six hits across the three games on the week and extended their losing streak to 12 games.

In the opener against Butte, Khloe Forrister was 1 for 3 with a stolen base and Alexis Easley recorded the second hit for Shasta. Starting pitcher Kaylie McDaniel struck out two and walked none while allowing four earned runs on 12 hits to take the complete-game loss.

Shasta trailed 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth inning when Butte pulled away with a three-run rally. McDaniel recorded two of the Knights' three hits in the 4-0 loss in the nightcap. Madeline Nightingale was 1 for 3 and Shelbe Cappello and Autumn Giannini each drew a walk. McDaniel struck out three and walked one while giving up four runs on 10 hits in six innings.

In Saturday's home game, Feather River opened the game up with a five-run first inning, highlighted by Brenna Chavez's three-run home run. Chavez hit a grand slam in the second inning to give the Golden Eagles a quick 9-0 lead that the Knights couldn't recover from. The Knights recorded five errors in the game.

Shasta's lone hit and base runner came from Giannini. McDaniel struck out three and allowed 10 earned runs on 18 hits in five innings.

Shasta hosts Butte for a doubleheader on Thursday at noon for its only games this week.

Through 15 games on the year, Nightingale is leading the Knights with a .257 average (9 for 35), following by Giannini (.231). Cappello has scored a team-best six runs while Whitney Carnes had a team-high five RBIs despite only appearing in six games.
