Slowly but Surely

It took a while to get going Wednesday for the Gavilan College volleyball team as they took on Skyline College and came away with a 25-18, 25-15, 25-12 victory.

Skyline, a program that has just restarted after sitting out the previous season and was currently down two players due to injury. All that however didn't stop the Trojans from coming out strong in the first set. In fact they were up 18-16 before freshman libero Kiki Heredia step to the service line and helped the Rams find their rhythm as they would go on a 8-0 run to close the set. From there the home team never looked back.

It was a big night for sophomore outside hitter Makenna Deeth as she led the Rams with a career high 16 kills on 29 swings. Freshman Ann Demario finished behind Deeth with 9 kills with Sarah Polanco finishing with 6 kills with 1 error on 20 attempts. Freshman setter Teresa Brozic raised her career high in assists by handing out 34. Yaileen Lopez a sophomore defensive specialist also set a new career high from behind the service line with 5 aces. Not to be outdone was her sister Jasmine Lopez, also a defensive specialist, who tied her career high of 16 digs to lead the defense. Two other Rams finished with double digit digs, Heredia with 15 and Demario with 11.

With the win, the Rams have improved their record to 5-3 as they finished the preseason portion of their schedule and begin conference. They will host De Anza College on Friday October 14th with first serve schedule for 6:30. Go Rams!
