Hawks Return to State Championship

Extending their historic season, the Cosumnes River College Hawks (CRC) prevailed 2-1 in a three-game Super Regional over Fresno City College. CRC advances to the CCCAA State Championship after winning 1-0 on Friday and 8-6 in the decisive game.

"I am so happy for our team, our staff and our school," said head coach Kristy Schroeder. "We have been so close for many years, but this is where we should be. I'm thrilled!"

In the series opener, Abigail Woodfill scored in the first. That was all pitcher Tatiana Blas needed.  Blas was nearly perfect, allowing only two Ram runners to reach base and none past second.

"We played great defense Friday. Tatiana only had one strikeout which is unusual, but we made all the plays," commented Schroeder.

After dropping the first game on Saturday, CRC bounced back.  Pitcher A.J. Dahdouh went the distance striking out five. Malia Babasa led the way offensively going 3-4 with three RBI. Avery Jolley added two RBI while Isabella Vela went 2-3.

"We didn't play great defensively, but Kalie Toy made a great catch for the final out. Malia played like the MVP should, and A.J. showed what a tough competitor she is," concluded Schroeder.

The Hawks open play on Thursday at the CCCAA State Championship in Saratoga versus Cypress College at 8:00 pm.
