Gutierrez hat trick leads Hawks to 4-0 victory over Modesto

Sophomore forward Saul Gutierrez (Tracy HS) made his presence felt on Tuesday, scoring three times for the hat trick in a 4-0 Las Positas College win over visiting Modesto Junior College.

The Hawks continued to flex their muscles on offense. LPC was coming off a 12-0 rout over Chabot College on Friday in its season opener and have scored 16 goals in just two games.

Tuesday's contest was close early until Gutierrez broke free for his first goal in the 35th minute off the assist from freshman Christian Neves (West HS) and freshman Owen Svantner (Dublin HS). Las Positas led 1-0 at halftime before the offense finally got going. Gutierrez gave LPC a 2-0 advantage with his goal in the 55th minute before sophomore Adolfo Trujillo (Livermore HS) made it a 3-0 game by scoring in the 65th.

"It took us a little bit to get going today," said Las Positas head coach Andy Cumbo. "It was our first home game, but we got things moving in the second half."

Gutierrez secured the hat trick thanks to his goal in minute 75. Trujillo added a pair of assists while sophomore Simon Fuentes (Monte Vista HS) and sophomore Eduardo Topete (Granada HS) also earned assists.

Freshmen Garret Alsup (Amador HS) and Miguel Cortez (Patterson HS) split time in goal to share the Hawks' second shutout.

The Hawks will look to earn their third win of the season on Thursday (Sep. 2) when LPC hosts Feather River College in a 6:30 p.m. non-conference game.
