The West Valley women's soccer team opened the 2017 season with a 3-0 loss at Evergreen Valley Tuesday evening. EVC's Juliana Detar found the back of the net with an unassisted goal just before halftime. Detar then found Hawk teammate Jade Joiner open on the left side of the box and Joiner connected for a 2-0 lead at the 48th minute. Evergreen Valley's Zenayda Arrealo bent in a corner kick at the 89th minute for the final tally. Viking forward Daniela Mendoza (pictured below) had two scoring chances early in the game and WVC keepers McKinly Yeager and Samantha Coelho both had big saves. The Vikings (0-1) look to rebound Friday (9/1) at the Ventura College Showcase when they take on San Diego Mesa (0-1) at 5pm. WVC squares off against East LA (0-1) Saturday (9/2) at 2pm.
