Women's Tennis Defeats San Francisco in Inaugural Competition

Fairfield, Calif. - The Lady Falcons tennis team won their first match in program history on Tuesday, 7-2, against a capable San Francisco City squad. The victory leaves the players and coaches thrilled with the start of the season.

"Our ladies looked composed and focused," said assistant coach Rafael Rovira. "They challenged, fought, planned, and held their ground. The months of work they have put into their game and our team bubbled to the surface and celebrated their warrior spirit and that should be celebrated."

"It is extremely gratifying to see that all the hard work of Coach Walker and Coach Rovira is being rewarded," Athletic Director Erik Visser said. "We are proud to have established a women's tennis program at Solano College. I would like to thank Phil Cello and the Camissa Foundation whose support and vision were critical to start both the men's and women's tennis intercollegiate programs at Solano College."

Rovira said head coach Jordan Walker has spent a lot of time on court developing their game and a lot of time off the court developing their character. "As far as I'm concerned, the potential they showed indicates a willingness to compete and the ability to stand toe to toe against most opponents," he said. "We are looking forward to getting our matches on the way. Our plea to area sports fans is to come out and support our teams as they progress into the season."

The women's tennis team continues competition against Cosumnes River on Tuesday, Feb. 14.
