Cubs defeat LA Mission College for 6th victory in a row

Last Friday night, the LACC Men's Soccer Team traveled to LA Mission College for their 7th game of the preseason and their first of five road matches in a row before conference play. Coming off a tough victory over San Diego City, the Cubs knew that they had to be working on all cylinders to prevail in another exciting match up. The first 10 minutes were a tactical period for both teams, but it would be sophomore Felipe Alvarez who would dagger in a free kick, 27 yards out, to the top left corner to put LACC up 1-0. The Cubs would then pick up intensity and score a second goal right before the half behind freshman Armando Villegas, who netted his second goal of the season, after shooting a beautiful ball assisted by Felipe Alvarez. The Cubs would go into the half with the 2-0 lead.

In the second half, the LA Mission Eagles would come back with high spirits and ignite an even more intense game, that would put LACC on the defense, but the LACC back line and freshman goalkeeper Fidencio Flores, would manage the situations and hold on to clinch the Cubs 5th shutout of the season. LACC would go on to rotate its players on the attack where freshman Juan Munoz would steal a ball on LA Mission's defensive third and assist freshman Bryan Ortiz to his first goal of the season and LACC's last goal of the match. The final score ended 3-0 in favor of the Cubs and extending their winning streak to 6. The Cubs will now travel to MiraCosta College in Oceanside, Tuesday, September 20th, as they continue to prepare for conference play in October.
