Cuesta Women Win Tour de Cuesta; Citrus' Curinga Takes Indiv Title
The annual Tour de Cuesta Invitational took place this afternoon in perfect 65 degree weather at Fairbanks Cross Country Course, hosted by Cuesta College.
In the women's race Antonella Curinga of Citrus College lead start to finish, outlasting a hard charging Aly Voth from Cuesta, by 1 second at the tape. The two ladies dominated the field by over 30 seconds over the challenging course. Cuesta would place 5 girls in the top 12 places, but were beaten in the overall score by just 4 points. Along-side Voth, Cuesta finished 2 freshman in the top 6 in Claire Farrell and Taylor Witcher.
In the men's 4 mile race a patient Sean McDermott waited until after Tower Hill to take the lead and succeeded in gapping the field by :45 seconds to the finish. Sean's time of 22:10 on the storied Fairbanks course ranks him #3 All Time by a Cuesta athlete in school history. His teammates were not to be outdone either. PJ Van Beurden and Aramis Knox would reach the tape in just over 23 minutes with Sam Ryan following a stride behind. The Cougars claimed the victory over Citrus in the race by a score of 37 to 55 despite the owls placing their first 5, first to the tape.
