Former Glendale College star, Zamudio, a repeat winner for Loyola Marymount at Mark Covert Classic
For the second year in a row, it was Grace Zamudio and Danielle Shanahan taking the top two spots for Loyola Marymount in the women's 5-kilometer race Saturday at the Mark Covert Classic at Carbon Canyon Regional Park in Brea.
Zamudio, a Hart graduate and former state champion at Glendale Community College, clocked 17 minutes, 59.9 seconds, with Shanahan — a former Bishop Montgomery standout — finishing in 18:06.4 to help the Lions win the Division I competition by a 32-51 margin over USC.
The Trojans were led by Katerina Berdousi, who took third in 18:16.7.
Katrina Graham, a former Master's College runner, placed 12th overall but won the women's open division in 18:43.4.
Jassmine Macon, a Granada Hills graduate, was second in the open division — 18th overall — for Glendale College in 18:56.1.
Concepcion Flores, a Canyon graduate, took third in the open division in 19:35.9 for the Vaqueros, who prevailed 21-51 over Cerritos.
San Diego's Liam Burke won the men's 8-kilometer race in 25:56.9.
Former Long Beach State talent Nick Kelley was the top runner in the open division — 10th overall — in 26:27.1.
Glendale College tied Orange Coast College for second in the men's open division with 61 points. Long Beach State edged Loyola Marymount 36-41 in the men's Division I race.
