OUTSIDE HITTERS THOMPSON AND CASAS EARN STATE PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
PASADENA - Outside hitter Amilya Thompson of San Joaquin Delta College, and Raven Casas, an outside hitter of San Diego Mesa College, each used strong weeks of hitting on their way to CCCWVCA Northern California and Southern California Player of the Week honors, respectively, it was announced.
Thompson, a CCCWVCA First Team All-American last year for Delta, scored 14 kills, 14 digs, 24 set assists, 4 aces and 2 blocks in a 4-set win over Cosumnes River. She then swung 12 kills, hit .526, set 23 assists, and made 18 digs in a 4-set Mustangs triumph over Santa Rosa. She is currently third in the state in hitting percentage at .445.
Casas pounded 18 kills , hit .293 and added seven digs in Mesa's 4-set win over San Diego City. She then recorded 15 kills with an outstanding .462 attack percentage in a sweep over Southwestern. Casas is currently third in the state in kills per set at 4.46.
