Smith, Rivera pick up first CCCWVCA Player of the Week honors of the season
PASADENA, Calif. - The California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association has announced that outside hitter Savanah Smith of American River College and outside hitter Leslie Rivera from Pasadena City College have been named State Northern California and Southern California Players of the Week, respectively, for week No. 1 of the 2018 season.
In four matches, Smith pounded 55 kills and made 64 digs in averaging 3.44 kills and 4 digs per set. A transfer sophomore, Smith was instrumental in helping ARC to a 3-1 start this season. Her best match was in a five-set win over Fresno City as she tallied 19 kills, 24 digs, served five aces, and made six solo blocks.
Rivera had an impressive college debut with three double-doubles in kills and digs against three top 20 ranked teams from last year. She averaged 3.91 kills, 3 digs, and .91 aces per set. In a loss to Cypress, she scored 15 kills, 10 digs and twirled six aces with three blocks. In a PCC win over Saddleback, she hit .520 with 14 kills in 25 attempts and just one error.
