Mary Shea selected as women’s distance coach for 2016 World Indoor Track and Field Championships

(Modesto, CA) – Mary Shea, Modesto Junior College Women's Track and Field coach and professor, was chosen by United States of America Track and Field to represent the USA as the women's distance coach for the 2016 International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Indoor Track and Field Championships, which are currently underway in Portland, Oregon.
More than 600 athletes representing as many as 200 countries will participate in the biennial event. Athletes will compete in 13 men's and women's events during the meet which runs from March 18 – 20. This will be the first time the IAAF World Indoor Championships have been contested in the United States since the inaugural competition in Indianapolis in 1987. The events will be broadcast throughout the weekend on NBC Television.
"It is such an honor to be chosen for this event," said Shea. "I am excited to work with our nation's best athletes as they go for the gold with the best in the World!"
This is Shea's fourth international team representing the USA, involvement which has provided valuable knowledge on the national and world level that she uses to improve her work with MJC athletes.
"These experiences have translated into phenomenal teaching experiences and tremendous growth in my role as professor and coach at MJC," stated Shea.
