SBCC Men & Women Win WSC Coast Meet
Cuesta College hosted the Western State Conference Coast Meet on Friday, but Santa Barbara City won both the men's and women's competitions. The Vaqueros won nine men's events and eight women's events on the day.
On the men's side, Bas VanLeersum (400m, 400H) and Marvin Magg (Shot, Jav) each won two events to lead SBCC, while Ventura's Dylan Roberts (Long Jump, Triple Jump) also took two events for the Pirates. Host Cuesta won six events and earned second place, but also provided the best race of the day as the Cougars' Connor Fisher held off teammate Brandon Messerly to win the 3000-meter Run (pict). The duo ran the second and third fastest times in Cuesta history with Fisher (8:45.54) falling just short of his own school record and Messerly (8:46.32) dropping 18 seconds off his previous season-best to take the #2 spot all time at Cuesta.
On the women's side, Santa Barbara won three of the four throwing events and the final relay to hold off Ventura. Ventura's Alisha Greenlaw (100H, TJ, 100m) and Santa Barbara's Jessica Escalante (Jav, Disc, 200m) each won three events on the day. Cuesta was led by Pole Vaulter Augusta Thomason, who moved into the #2 spot all time at Cuesta with a leap of 12-6.
