Breanna Clark Runs Fastest 400 in State to Win at Mt. SAC Relays

The Pasadena City College women's track and field team could continue its recent string of individual state champions with the emergence of sprinter Breanna Clark. The sophomore ran the state's fastest time this year in the 400 meters, winning the event at the Mt. SAC Relays with a 55.33 seconds mark on Friday.
Racing from the seventh lane in the premier heat, Clark defeated the state's three previous top performers in the event, including El Camino's Raven Nunez and the Terry twins, Shebanet'te and Shemanet'te, of Riverside. Clark shaved two seconds off her previous perso nal best time in the 400.
Clark later soared to second in the 200 with the state's third fastest mark of 24.61. Mt. SAC's Sarah Dunmore won that event with a new state-best 24.12.
Another Lancer who stood out was thrower Yvette Bastidas, who took fifth in the javelin with a personal best throw of 111 feet, 5 inches (now 20th in the state). Sophomore Christina Shamirian could not build on her best time, but did take sixth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at 12:01.77. She is 14th in the state.
Freshman Tansica Sunkamaneevongse placed 15th overall in the 1,500 with a time of 5:02.13 while teammate Kailadnni Chavez (5:13.59) was 21st.
