Nationally Ranked Pahulu & Volkman Win Throws at CSM's Bob Rush Invite

SAN MATEO -- Nationally ranked Maureen Pahulu won the women's discus and hammer throws events Friday at College of San Mateo's annual Bob Rush track and field Invitational which included most of Northern California's top community college athletes.
She threw the hammer 149 feet, 10 inches, and the discus, 132-6. The sophomore out of Mills High also placed second in the javelin throw (115-3) and third in the shot put (35-6 3/4). Pahulu ranks No. 3 among all community college discus throwers this season with her best of 143-0, which leads Northern California. She is No. 10 in the javelin (fourth in California) at 119-7, thrown last week at the De Anza Invitational
Aaron Volkman won the men's hammer throw for the Bulldogs at 163-10. The sophomore ranks No. 7 nationally with his season best of 167-5 and is No. 5 in the shot put at 53-2 1/2. He settled for third place in the shot Friday at 59-8 1/4.
In the men's javelin throw, Jamison Hall placed third at 157-8 and Collin Luu improved his season best more than five feet to 156-2, finishing fifth. CSM's Scott Chiesa, who had the No. 2 throw in the nation last week at the De Anza Invitational, 205-10, did not compete due to a back injury.
Luu placed third in the discus throw at 150-7. The Lincoln (San Francisco) grad ranks No. 9 nationally in the event with his season best of 154-2.
CSM basketball player Vanessa Siega placed third in the women's triple jump with a personal best 33-11 1/2.
On the track, Jordan Chase (out of Mercy, Burlingame) won her section of the women's 800 meters in 2 minutes, 33 seconds, and was third overall in the event. Alejandra Marin was fifth in the women's 1,500 meters in 5:11.91.
