SBVC's Shanice Stewart signed letter of intent with Texas Tech University
Stewart secured back-to-back state championships in the long jump with a leap of 5.86 meters (19ft 2.5in), the 1st place finish constituted all 10 points for SBVC at the state finals. She competed in most of the Friday events, but was unable to compete for the women's outdoor heptathlon due to injury. Stewart's leap of 5.86 meters this year was her best, even topping her state championship leap of a year ago, in which she leapt 5.58 meters (just over 18 feet).
Stewart captured her second straight Southern California Regional title in the 100 meter hurdles with a season best time of 14.09. Her time of 14:09 in the 100 meter hurdles is the second best time in the state. Stewart tied the state's best long jump mark with a personal best leap of 6.04 meters (19ft 9in). She will compete at the CCCAA Track and Field State Championships in the seven event heptathlon, bringing along her second best in the state ranking, the 100 meter hurdles, and the long jump.
Stewart collected 4 individual titles at the Pacific Coast Conference Championships taking first place finishes in the long jump, 100 meter hurdles, high jump, and women's outdoor heptathlon. She also had a second place finish in the shot put and a third place finish in the 100 meter dash. The 3 time All-American in the long jump, women's outdoor heptathlon, and the 100m hurdles has been plagued by an injured ankle all season and still was able to maintain a top three state ranking in four different events.
