Shasta Women Win First BVC Championship
Shasta College's women's swimming and diving team won its first Bay Valley Conference championships in program history over the weekend.
The Knights finished with 1,309.5 points, winning 13 events on the weekend. Shasta College's women had nine event wins following the opening day on Thursday and the men had four.
The Knights' Makayla Scott was named the BVC's female diver of the year, the women's team finished the year undefeated, head coach Mark Wagner was awarded the coach of the year.
Women's event winners: Makayla Scott in the 1-meter diving with a finals score of 222.25, the 200-yard medley relay team of Samantha Divelbiss, Kelsey Serna, Taylor Moebes and Katie Eiler won in 1 minutes, 57.7 seconds, Divelbiss in the 50 backstroke (28.75) and 100 back (1:05.73), the 800 free relay team of Kelsey Serna, Taylor Serna, Moebes and Mimi Hoxie (8:43.77), Shelby Kine in the 3-meter diving (197.70 points), Hoxie in the 100 free (54.81) and 100 butterfly (59.52) and the 400 free relay team of Divelbiss, Eiler, Kelsey Serna and Hoxie (3:54.27).
Other top places for women included Taylor Serna taking second in the 500 free (5:57.72), Kine taking second in the 1-meter dive (202.40), Hoxie second in the 200 individual medley (2:16.82), Kelsey Serna second in the 50 fly (27.23), Divelbiss taking third in the 50 free (25.54), Emily Osborne third in the 200 free (2:28.44), Scott second in the 3-meter dive (157.00).
