BC women place seventh in state in 200 free relay

MONTEREY PARK -- The Bakersfield College women's 200-yard freestyle relay team placed seventh Thursday at the California Community College Athletic Association state championship meet at East Los Angeles College.
The team of Catherine Lugo, Shelby Bayne, Clarssa Gardella and Elizabeth Hargis combined for a 1:40.88.
On Friday, BC's top finishes were 10th-places by Catherine Lugo in the women's 50-yard butterfly (26.97) and Mathew Prasser in the men's 100 breast (58.60).
BC's other Friday results were 12th in the women's 200 medley relay (1:53.78) and 16th in the men's 200 medley relay (1:39.09).
Garces graduate Mac Aakhus, who swims for Long Beach, was 13th in the 100 back (54.21).
BC's women are in 14th place with 56 points and the Renegade men are in 28th place with 16 points.
Other BC entrants who placed at Thursday's opening day were Gardella, who was 14th in the women's 50 free (25.22); Josh Delarosa, who was 14th in the men's 200 individual medley (1:58.24); and both 400-yard medley relay teams.
The women's team of Hargis, Bayne, Ludo and Gardella timed 4:10.56 for 11th place.
The men's team of David Dawson, John Cunningham, David Capoloc and Tracey Warren placed 15th in 3:49.00.
The meet concludes today.
