MiraCosta College Women's Soccer team tied Grossmont College in first conference game of the season. The game started off strong for the Spartans as the defensive line directed the direction and speed of play. A hand ball against Grossmont in the 8th minute gave the Spartans a great opportunity to attack on goal but ended without a goal. In the 24th minute, Lissete Bahena recieved a ball from the Spartan defense and dribbled 40 yards down the sideline, increasing the intensity of the Spartans attacking game. MiraCosta kept majority possession for the rest of the half as Kassandra Zafra dominated the midfield and created chances for attacking players, Lissete Bahena and Mandy Lara.
The Spartans started the second half with focus and intensity. There was a battle for each side to have possession, but in the 56th minute Myla McKeague stepped from her defensive line to put a ball over Grossmont's backline for Lissete Bahena to capatilize score MiraCosta's first and only goal of the game. After the Spartans goal, everyone's sense of urgency increased. In the 67th minute, a Spartan hand ball in the 18 yard box gave Grossmont penalty kick that they capatilized on. The Spartans responded well and battled it out until the end of the game.
