Pirates women's soccer coach Steve Aristotelous reaches milestone victory
MODESTO - Modesto Junior College women’s soccer coach, Steve Aristotelous, reached the prestigious 250 career win mark on Friday with a 4-0 victory at Skyline College.
Aristotelous is in his 19th year with the Pirates. In addition to serving as head coach, Aristotelous is also a tenured faculty member, teaching Health and Physical Education courses.
What does it mean to win 250 games? “250 wins means I have had a lot of talent come through MJC. It has been an exciting journey,” said Aristotelous.
The MJC women’s soccer team celebrated its coach’s win after defeating Skyline College, improving to 3-0-0 on the season. In addition to the on-field success, the team is succeeding in the classroom as well, with and average team grade point average of 3.49.
“What I love about soccer is how it has evolved over the years," he said. "At first, I loved the competition, and I loved being a part of a competitive (and) family environment all striving to win a title. I still love to compete, but what I love more now is watching all these young women push forward with their schooling and accomplishing their personal goals (career, family, and anything else they desire). As the head of this program, my number one responsibility is to provide my athletes the best opportunity possible to complete their academic goals.”
The Pirates continue their season on Tuesday when they visit Sierra College.
