Dylan Forzani was named the Sacramento City College Athlete of the Year. This is a great honor. He is the 19th wrestler to be honored for this award. His name is being passed forward to the State for nomination as the State Male Athlete of the Year. The last to win was Alex Campos Chambers on the 2013 State Championship team. Also, Isaiah Smith and Jason Zecchini were named to the SCC Scholar Athlete team. Only the top 10 Male Scholar Athletes at SCC make this team. Congrats to them as well. Others receiving awards for academic success wereCarlos Alvarez, Tavian Del Rosario, Robert Denny, Malachi Estep, Keyshawn Franklin, Felipe Lemus Servin, Robert Nickerson, Trevor Wright, and Dylan Forzani. Congratulations to all these young men and the rest of the members of the 2015 State Championship wrestling team.
A number of SCC Wrestling Alum have been pounding the cages in MMA fighting and coaching. Danny Castillo has made a seamless transition from UFC fighter to the head wrestling coach at Team Alpha Male. Josh Emmett (5th State) finally got the call from the UFC to fight on short notice and won his first UFC by decision despite have a dislocated finger that actually broke through the skin. Josh has a 10-0 record and is the third SCC alum to break into the UFC joining Castillo and Scott Smith. Others top alum to watch as they climb the ladder is Juan "The Spaniard" Archuleta. Juan, who has a 10-1 record, fights mostly in So Cal, is the 155 pound KING OF THE CAGE Champion. He has a title fight coming up for the 145 pound belt too. Tyler Diamond is currently 4-0 with most fights coming through the KOFC and WFC. BothKaleio Romero and Lake Gee are 2-0 in Amateur fights. Kaleio just won a belt when he took on a short notice fight at 155 pounds. 155 seems like a popular weight for SCC alum. Castillo, Emmett, Archuleta and Romero all fought or fight at that weight.
