Little action on court doesn't mean inaction in poll
CCCWBCA Poll (Dec 27) (pdf)
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - There might not have been much action on the court over the past week but that doesn't mean there there wasn't movement atop the CCCWBCA State Poll released Tuesday, with Mt. San Antonio College and Sierra College swapping places in the top three and a trio of other programs shaking things up a bit over the next three spots.
Palomar College, which remained No. 8 in the rankings, was the only team in last week's top 10 to play over the past seven days with the Comets downing Saddleback College, 73-57 on Dec. 20, and then host Orange Coast College, 98-53, a day later to win the 23rd Erin Tomlinson Coast Christmas Classic Championship. Despite the two wins, Palomar (12-2) remained in its eighth spot.
East Los Angeles, which took over the No. 1 spot last week, remained there this week, garnering 10 of 17 first-place votes and 349 points. However, Sierra (13-1) – which was top-ranked before falling to No. 2 last week - dropped to third this week, flipping with Mt. San Antonio (13-1) while trailing by just four points (336-332) in the poll. Mt. SAC picked up six of the remaining first-place tallies while Sierra had the other.
College of the Siskiyous (16-1) remains fourth this week while Mt. San Jacinto (12-1) broke a sixth-place tie over City College of San Francisco (11-2), and is fifth. CCSF is now No. 6 by itself and College of the Sequoias (13-3) fell from fifth to seventh. Diablo Valley College (11-2) and Pasadena City College (13-3) stayed in their same spots to round out the top 10.
Ventura College and L.A. Valley College were idle but the teams swapped the 14th and 15th places in the poll with Ventura getting the nod for the higher spot by just seven points. There was no other movement in the bottom half of the poll.
