Moore Named Citrus College Interim Head Coach
Glendora, CA --Assistant Coach Loree Moore has been named the Interim Head Coach of the Citrus College Women's Basketball program. The former high school, collegiate, and professional standout spent the last two seasons on the Owls sideline as an assistant, and takes over for Tamara McDonald who stepped down at the beginning of the month to accept a job with the Department of Labor.
"I just want to start off by thanking Jody Wise [Dean of Kinesiology & Athletics] along with the Citrus College Board of Trustees and Superintendent/President Dr. Geraldine M. Perri, for their support and taking the chance on me for this position," Moore said. "It's an honor to be able to still be here at Citrus and to continue on with the girls this upcoming season."
Moore came to Citrus two seasons ago after wrapping up a significant professional career. The 10th Overall selection in the 2005 WNBA Draft, Moore played five seasons for the New York Liberty. In 2007, Moore was named to the WNBA's All-Defensive 2nd Team. Along with her stint in the WNBA, Moore also spent seven seasons playing professionally in Turkey and four seasons playing in Russia.
"I am excited about this opportunity to continue to build on the tradition of the women's program and Citrus' name around the State," Moore said. "This is going to be a fun and exciting season for our girls and I cannot wait to get under way to see how it all plays itself out in the end."
Moore played collegiately for one of the greatest basketball coaches of all-time, Pat Summitt. While playing for the Lady Vols, Moore helped lead Tennessee to four straight NCAA Final Fours. At the end of her college career, Moore ranked 10th all-time in program history in steals, and sixth in assists per game.
In high school, Moore was considered one of the best players in the country. Moore was a four-year starter at Narbonne High School here in Southern California. As a member of the Gauchos, Moore helped take Narbonne to two California State High School Championships and a pair of USA Today National Championships. Narbonne went 115-7 over her four seasons, and when she wrapped up her prep career, Moore was California's all-time leader in career assists and steals.
"We are excited that Loree has agreed to continue her coaching career here at Citrus and move into the Interim Head Coaching position," said Dean of Kinesiology and Athletics Jody Wise. "Loree's accolades speak for themselves, but more importantly is her rapport with our student-athletes and her passion for teaching the game. She is a great addition to our head coaching staff."
