Sierra Wins Hosted Sasha Brown Classic

ROCKLIN —The Sierra College women's basketball team won the second annual Sasha Brown Memorial Classic over the weekend. But feelings were mixed as the team's thoughts went out to former Wolverine Sasha Brown.
"Sasha played every minute as hard as possible. It was fun seeing our team coming out with the same spirit and energy and play team basketball," said Sierra College coach Brandie Murrish of the three-day tournament. "It was important they played as hard as they possibly could to honor Sasha."
Brown, a Rocklin High alumna, passed away in the summer of 2013 after a case of pneumonia was caught too late, her mother, Pam Brown, said.
Pam Brown is grateful with what the college has done to remember her daughter.
"We're really honored," Brown said. "She loved the school, everything it stood for from the teachers, the facility and of course, basketball. I love seeing Sierra winning it as they work hard to do. But most of all, all the personalities come out here and do their best and work hard. That's all we can ask for."
