Three-time defending champion Mt. San Antonio headlines talented field at 3C2A Men's and Women's Track and Field Championships

SAN MATEO - What can you do after a 3-peat? Go for four?

Mt. San Antonio College is defending its 3-time double state track and field championships, Friday and Saturday, at the 2025 3C2A Men’s and Women’s Finals taking place at College of San Mateo’s College Heights Stadium.

The Mounties claimed the Southern California women’s title last week. But they could not outscore Riverside City College in the men’s division. 

For the women, it was Mt. SAC ahead with 137.5 points, followed by Riverside (133) and San Diego Mesa (112). On the men’s side, RCC had 183 points, ahead of Mt. SAC (149) and Mesa (125).

2024 TEAM RESULTS: The Mt. SAC women tallied 102 points at last year’s state finals at Saddleback College to outscore Cerritos College (83) and Modesto JC (61). On the men’s side, the Mounties had 199 points, ahead of Riverside (114) and Mesa (74) 

Riverside roars into the 2025 state meet with the men’s and women’s sprint champions from the south. For the women, Catalina Teran won the 100 meters 12.06 seconds, although runner-up Ashley Nash of Mesa clocked the same time. Teran also took the 200 in 24.08.

Modesto JC’s Roy Williams Shaylan is the women’s state 100 leader, at 11.38. Anderson-Brown Nyarah of Chabot tops the 200 at 24.06

For the men, it was RCC’s Marcellus Linton winning both SoCal races, in 10.50 and 21.30. In the 200, silver medalist Anthony Pequeno of Pasadena clocked the same 21.30 time – into a slight (0.7 meters per second) headwind.

NorCal champion and returning finalist Robert Stitts of Chabot leads the state list in both events at 10.28 and 20.87. He was the 2024 state runner-up in the furlong. Chabot also has the leading 4x100 meter relay team at 40.84, ahead of SD Mesa (40.93)

Middle distance star Jordan Berkley is a key runner for Mt. SAC. The 2024 silver medalist at 800 meters won the SoCal 2-lap title (1:53.32) and was runner-up in the 1,500. The Mounties also have the SoCal 110-meter hurdles champion, Ruben Delgado, with a state-leading 14.42; plus, a pair of state finalists in the longer hurdles.

In the field, the Mounties have SoCal pole vault champion Quintin Dukes (16-6 3/4) leading a quartet of Mt. SAC finalists in that event; also, the state’s No. 2-ranked javelin thrower, Taiyo Ishiguro (204-10).

SEVERAL DEFENDING CHAMPS:     
Women defending individual titles:
-Danna Ibara Canales of Saddleback won the 1,500 meters in 4 minutes, 39.39 seconds last year and tackles NorCal champ Ericka Dorn of host San Mateo (4:49.59) and this year’s SoCal champion Liberty Miller of Orange Coast College (4:49.16), who was a state finalist in 2024..

-Rhiannon Walker of Clovis Community College won the 3,000 steeplechase last year in 11:03.91 and took the 2025 NorCal crown in 10:53.43. Walker was also the silver medalist last season at 5,000 meters and is top seeded there with her NorCal winning 18:21.23 time. Miller, however, leads the state overall in 2025 at 17:15.91.

Walker is a triple NorCal distance champion this season, initially taking the 10,000 meters in 39:42.75 (and is the state season leader at 37:48.94). SoCal champ is Sherlyn Gomez of West Los Angeles at 38:25.69.

Returning men’s gold medalists include:
-Ian Rosen of San Diego Mesa won the 800 meters in 2024 and is the current state leader at 1:51.25

-Micah Krosby of Saddleback won the pole vault last year at this home pit.

Women hoping to move up from their silver medal performances in 2024 are Genevieve Tamondong of Clovis in the 800 meters, Kaylee Tan of SD Mesa in the pole vault, and Abigail Gavrilovic of Orange Coast in the hammer throw. Host CSM has the returning bronze medalist in the shot  put, Jane Taufa, the current state leader at 43-9 3/4.

The men’s steeplechase race is loaded with five returning finalists, led by third place Jacob Mendiola of San Bernardino Valley (the current SoCal champion and state leader at 9:13.63) and fourth place Jude Enriquez of Mt. SAC.
