Heuberger's triple lifts Palomar past El Camino

SARATOGA, Calif – Palomar won its third-straight to stay alive in the 2025 3C2A Softball State Championships, beating El Camino 4-1 off a Josephine Heuberger game-winning bases-clearing triple in the sixth inning.
HOW IT HAPPENED
A pitcher's duel, Lexi Ramirez and Nevaeh Haywood went toe-to-toe through the duration of the game. Ramirez finally cracked in the sixth as the righty creeped up past 400 pitches thrown over the past three days.
The Comets drew a one-out walk then laced back-to-back singles to load the bases. Heuberger took the first pitch to deep right, one hopping the wall, clearing the bags. Heuberger got caught in between third and home trying to score, but the damage was done. Heuberger finished a homer away from the cycle.
Haywood held the Warriors to only four hits, all singles, but surrendered five walks – the most she's allowed in four starts at the championships.
El Camino scored the game's first run to take a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Lilly Lewis hit a sacrifice fly getting the Warriors on the board.
The score stayed that way until the fifth when Palomar tied it up. The Comets had been waiting to break through all day, notching 10 hits and stranding eight runners. Zoe Karam, who had a stellar game yesterday to beat West Valley, brought home Breanna Lutz with an RBI single.
The top of the Comets order combined for seven hits, Lutz and Heuberger each tallied three.
Since losing to San Mateo in the open, Palomar has outscored its opponents 16-2 and sent three teams home.
