GRECH, BUSINGER, WEITENHAGEN HOMER CSM PAST FOOTHILL, 10-1, IN COAST SOFTBALL SHOWDOWN

SAN MATEO -- Kait Grech, Aubrie Businger, and Amanda Ubois-Weitenhagen smashed home runs as College of San Mateo took care of second place Foothill, 10-1, in 5-inning mercy fashion in a Coast North Conference softball game Tuesday afternoon at CSM.

Repeating Coast champ San Mateo (35-2) leads the state in wins, including a pacesetting 28-game streak, and is 12-0 in league play.

Emily McAdams improved her state leading pitching record to 25-1 (also the most wins). The sophomore had four strikeouts and ranks fifth in the state with 167 for the season. Her 0.71 E.R.A. is tops in Northern California and No. 2 in the state. McAdams helped her own cause on sophomore day, batting in a pair and scoring twice.

For Weitenhagen, it was her 11th blast of the season (all in March and April), ranking No. 4 in the state. Grech and Businger each hit their sixth home runs for the Bulldogs, who lead the state with 34. Grech capped a 7-run second frame with her 2-run blast that put San Mateo in command just after Aly Sarabia singled home a pair.

CSM is also the top slugging team in the state with a .568 average.

Foothill (18-15, 6-6 Coast North) dropped a half game behind Ohlone (6-5) in the conference standings.

--San Mateo has two regular season games remaining, both on the road: Thursday at Chabot and Tuesday (April 23) at Ohlone -- both at 3 p.m. – before hosting a Northern California playoff series on May 3-4.
