Lauren Quirke pitched and batted No. 1 College of San Mateo’s Northern California top-ranked softball team to a convincing 7-2 Coast North Conference opening victory at Foothill College on Tuesday afternoon. Quirke improved her perfect won-loss record to 11-0 after four innings or work (with three strikeouts) as CSM became the first team in the state to win 20 games (20-2) this season.

QUIRKE LEADS CSM OVER FOOTHILL, 7-2, IN COAST NORTH SOFTBALL OPENER
Lauren Quirke pitched and batted No. 1 College of San Mateo's Northern California top-ranked softball team to a convincing 7-2 Coast North Conference opening victory at Foothill College on Tuesday afternoon. Quirke improved her perfect won-loss record to 11-0 after four innings or work (with three strikeouts) as CSM became the first team in the state to win 20 games (20-2) this season.
She singled home leadoff hitter Allie Stines with San Mateo's first run and, later in the initial frame, scored the San Mateo's third run (which provided the winning margin). Quirke, a sophomore out of Hillsdale High, had two hits and two RBIs in the game and stole her eighth base. She is batting .468.
South San Francisco High grad Emily Cotla had three hits, including a pair of doubles, and scored a run. Stines (Capuchino) had a pair of hits (including a double) and scored twice. She leads the Coast North in batting with a .515 average. Mackenzie Driscoll (Hillsdale) had two RBIs, increasing her Coast North leading total to 31.
Emily McAdams (Sequoia) pitched a hitless final three innings, striking out three. She has 42 K's this season, just one behind Coast North leader Quirke (43).
CSM (20-2, 1-0 Coast North) next plays at De Anza (1-19) on Thursday at 3 p.m. and will host Shasta (6-4) in a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. Foothill is 9-9 (0-1).
