3CFCA Announces 2015 Awards
The 2015 California Community College Fastpitch Coaches Association announced their Coach, Player, and Pitcher of the Year along with their All-State and All-Region teams today. College of San Mateo swept the NorCal honors winning Coach (Nicole Borg), Player (Melina Rodriguez), and Pitcher (Lauren Berriatua) of the Year, while El Camino College's Jessica Rapoza was named the Coach of the Year from the South, Celina Felix of Mt. San Antonio College the Player of the Year, and Katie Chenault of Allan Hancock the Pitcher of the Year.
College of San Mateo skipper Nicole Borg took home her fourth 3CFCA Coach of the Year Award. Borg led her Bulldogs to an undefeated 35-0 season and Coast Conference North Division Conference Championship. Jessica Rapoza of El Camino College meanwhile led the Warriors to a 30-10 record overall and South Coast Conference Championships, just the school's second in program history and the first since 1989.
Rodriguez battled through an injury shortened season, but when she was healthy, was a force. Rodriguez batted .618 on the season with 22 RBI's and five home runs. She posted a .971 slugging percentage and scored 44 runs. Felix meanwhile finished 5th in the State in batting average hitting .561 and was fourth in the State in RBI's with 60. Felix also led the State in home runs with 18. Felix scored 53 runs and slugged 1.307.
Berriatua got things done both in the circle and at the plate. Berriatua was led the State in ERA with a 0.28 ERA and fourth in the State in wins with 23. Berriatua fanned 150 batters and averaged 8.49 K's per game. She was also third in the State in batting average, hitting .567 with 44 RBI's and 39 runs scored. Chenault finished first in the State in strikeouts with 369 and first in the State in wins with 32. Chenault averaged 12.22 K's per game and pitched all but five and a third innings for the Bulldogs.
