Saddleback's Lima slays the Knights
by Saddleback College Sports Information
The Saddleback softball team bounced back from a loss with a non-conference win over San Diego City College on Monday evening at Trani Field. Samantha Lima hit two home runs as the Gauchos slayed the Knights, 13-2, in five innings.
San Diego City jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a pair of hits off of starting pitcher Kaylee Cranmer. They would get just one hit the rest of the way as the Gaucho bats capitalized on a number of Knight miscues, scoring 13 runs in the next three innings in cruising to the win.
Lima was the difference, hitting a three-run homer in the second inning to give Saddleback a 7-2 lead and then again hitting a three-run bomb in the third inning to up the cushion to 12-2. Lima finished 2-for-3 with six RBI and now leads the team in both home runs (8) and RBI (29) for the year.
Meanwhile, Raymond settled down after a rough first inning, allowing just one hit over the final four innings in improving to 19-6 on the season. She struck our five while allowing only one walk as Saddleback won its 10th game in the past 11 tries while improving to 23-11 on the season.
Saddleback will be back in action in Orange Empire Conference play on Wednesday when they host Fullerton College at 3:00 PM. The Gauchos are currently in third place (12-5) but just two games out of first with four games remaining on the regular season schedule.
