Pairings for men's volleyball championship announced
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Top-ranked and Orange Empire Conference champion Orange Coast College has been tabbed as the top seed for the 2017 California Community College Athletic Association Championship, according to pairings for the tournament announced on Saturday morning.
The Pirates (18-1) will open with a matchup against No. 8-seeded Grossmont (6-10) next Friday. It's one of four quarterfinal matchups that are being played at the site of the higher seed. Other matches on Friday include No. 2 Irvine Valley (15-3) hosting No. 7 El Camino (10-7), No. 6 Fullerton (12-8) at No. 3 Long Beach City and No. 5 L.A. Pierce (13-5) at No. 4 Santa Monica (13-5).
The quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinals at L.A. Pierce on April 27. The state championship, also at L.A. Pierce, will be on April 29. The semifinals and finals will be broadcast online at www.socalcollegesports.com.
Orange Coast will take a 17-match winning streak into its showdown with Grossmont. The Pirates' lone loss was a four-set defeat to Santa Monica on Feb. 4. Irvine Valley finished in second place in the OEC to Orange Coast with a 6-2 record while defending state champion Long Beach City went a perfect 10-0 in the Western State-South.
