Mt. SAC Relays Wrap Up With New State Leaders In Place

Three CCCAA All-American athletes won their respective events each recording the top results in the nation to highlight the community college division of the 2015 Mt. San Antonio College Relays on April 11.
Sophomore Reed Scale of Mt. SAC won the men's pole vault with a height of 5.20 meters (17' 00.75" feet), which is the top result in the nation among community college men.
2014 cross country women's individual state champion freshman Aminat Olowora of Southwestern College won the women's 5,000-meter run with a time of 16:47.15 minutes.
Olowora's time is the fastest time in the nation 1.73 seconds faster than sophomore Yesenia Silva of College of the Sequoias, who now has the second fastest time in the country.
All-American sophomore Laura Aceves of East Los Angeles College won the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase run also with the fastest time in the nation.
Olowora and Aceves times were meet and community college Hilmer Lodge Stadium records.
Olowora has the fastest times in the state in the women's 1500, 5,000 and 10-0000-meter runs.
"It was a great meet. Every event ran on time," said Doug Todd, Mt. San Antonio College women's track and field head coach. "There were at least several state leaders (competing)."
Of those state leaders, sophomore Robert Ellis of American River College won the men's 100-meter dash in 10.42, followed by Mt. SAC freshman Armani McNeal (10.46). The two have the fastest times in the state.
Freshman Quinton Bell of Riverside City College won the 200-meter dash in 21.09 tying the state's top time with Ellis who did not compete in the event.
Moesha Davidson of Fresno City College won the women's 100 dash in 11.61, also the fastest time in the state.
American River recorded the state's top time in the 4x100-meter relay. The team of freshman Andre Woodson, Ellis, and sophomores Shawn Simms and Devan Sawyer clocked in at 40.38.
Mt. SAC took second place with the fastest time in So Cal (40.83). The Mt. SAC team consisted of freshman Cravon Gillespie, McNeal, sophomore Isaiah Kennedy and freshman David Christensen.
In the men's 4x400 relay, first place Mt. SAC, second place Riverside and third place West Los Angeles College recorded the fastest times in the state.
The champion Mt. SAC team consisted of Christensen, freshman Trevor Fischer, and sophomores Aron Hurtado and Michael Jolly.
The closest event of the day came in the men's 5,000 run with Cerritos sophomore Anthony Lozano winning in 15:04.10, 3/100's of a second faster than American River sophomore Luis Luna.
Mt. SAC had the only sweep of the day, which was in the pole vault with Reed, freshman Giovanni Hernandez and sophomore Tyler Feiteira winning the top three spots.
American River and Mt. SAC each had eight first place winners.
Other event winners from Mt. SAC included sophomore Sarah Dunmore in the women's 200 dash, Christensen in the men's 400-meter dash, sophomore Mohamed Isse in the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Rinecia Jackson in the women's triple jump and the Mounties' 4x100 women's relay team of freshman Jazmine Robertson, Dunmore, freshman Khadija Imara and sophomore Kiara Speed.
Other American Rivers first place winners included freshman Adrianna Reagon and sophomore Edwin Matthews both in the high jump, sophomore Shelby Crider in the javelin, sophomore James Hubbard in the men's hammer, sophomore Shawn Simms in the long jump and freshman Sean Gregg in the men's steeplechase.
Other first place winners in the hurdles were Long Beach City College freshman Bayron Manuel in the men's 100-meter hurdles and Laney College sophomore Kortni Smyers-Jones in the 100-meter high hurdles. In the women's 400-meter hurdles it was Fullerton College freshman Samantha Duong.
Fullerton freshman Fanny Giron won the women's 400 dash.
First place winners in the middle distance events included Riverside sophomore Maria Morales (women's) and Cerritos sophomore Francisco Ortiz (men's) in the 800-meter run. In the 1,500-meter run it was Glendale freshman Glindyll Manica (women's) and College of the Canyons freshman Ethan Walker (men's).
Winner's of the throws events included Riverside freshman Ashley Santos (women's) and Modesto Daniel Roberts (men's) in the shot put, and Santa Barbara City College sophomore Aaron Mateski in the javelin, Saddleback sophomore Hannah Peterson in the hammer and Riverside freshman Michelle Camps and Roberts in the discus throws.
West LA freshman Makenna Powell took first place in the women's pole vault.
Riverside freshman Maria Reynolds was the winner of the women's long jump while Fresno City College sophomore Mohammed Abdullah won the men's triple jump.
First place winners in the women's 4x400 relay were the El Camino College team of freshmen Kimberly Markley, Passionae Martin, Jasmine Lacy and Xiomara Perkins.
