Second-ranked Yuba College runs win streak to 14 games
MARYSVILLE, Calif. - Second-ranked Yuba College left little doubt a step towards the Bay Valley Conference championship and another notch in the Forty-Niners' state-leading 13-game winning streak would fall to the wayside against visiting Marin College on Wednesday night, opening a big halftime lead on its way to a dominant 87-46 men's basketball victory.
Yuba led 43-15 at halftime and never looked back, improving to 23-2 overall and 13-0 in the Bay Valley Conference. The Forty-Niners, who can clinch the league title with a win over Napa on Friday, have won 14 straight and are a perfect 8-0 on their home floor.
Brandon Ruaro scored a team-high 19 points, leading three Yuba players in double figures. Erick Shieve added 12 and Jihad Woods tallied 11. Ruaro also drained five three-pointers for Yuba, who hit 11 of 23 overall. Woods and Schieve completed double-doubles with each adding 11 boards to their scoring totals.
Yuba shot 58.3% (35 for 60) from the field overall and had just 12 turnovers.
The Forty-Niners' win on Wednesday was one of eight among the nine teams ranked in the top 10. Other top 10 scores included No. 1 City College of San Francisco over No. 9 Canada, 95-73; No. 2 Saddleback over Riverside, 82-68; No. 4 San Bernardino over MiraCosta, 78-70; No. 5 EC-Compton over LA Harbor, 96-84; No. 7 Feather River over Shasta, 85-67; No. 8 San Diego over Grossmont, 82-67 and No. 10 Fresno over Reedley, 113-67.
