Saddleback College will become the first community college basketball program to broadcast an entire tournament live in HD starting this Thursday when it hosts the Bill Brummel Classic. Saddleback enters the tournament on a roll after winning the 43rdAnnual Riverside College Tournament over the weekend and winning the Palomar College Tournament two weeks earlier. The Gauchos (13-1) are currently ranked No. 4 in the state and No. 2 in Southern California. They will face MiraCosta College (5-4) in the opening round of the tournament at 7:00 PM. The two teams have not met this season and Saddleback comes in riding an eight-game winning streak while the Spartans have won five of their last seven games.
The opening game on Thursday will feature San Diego City College (7-5) versus Long Beach City College (5-3) at 1:00 PM. The two teams have not met this season and both are listed as teams having votes in the latest CCCBCA Coach's Poll.
Game two has two more heavyweights as sister-school Irvine Valley College (7-4) faces Chaffey College (11-5) at 3:00 PM. The two teams have not faced each other this season both but come in with high praise from the Coach's Association. IVC is ranked No. 13 in the south while Chaffey is ranked No. 16 in the state and No. 8 in Southern California.
The 5:00 PM game has Los Angeles Trade Tech (2-7) taking on fellow Orange Empire Conference foe Fullerton College (2-9). Both programs appeared in both the Fullerton and Riverside tournaments but still have yet to meet. With plenty of opportunity to see one-another in action, it makes for a spirited and competitive matchup. The winner of the game will get a shot at the Saddleback/MiraCosta winner on Friday.
The Gauchos Sports Network will carry a live stream of the games for a $10 daily fee. All games will be in HD quality and will be accessible on any computer or mobile device. All proceeds from the event go back into the athletics program to help promote the athletes and programs.
