Top 10 Shake-Up in Latest JCAB Top 25 Poll
San Mateo, Calif. - Riverside City College had no trouble holding the No. 1 position in this week's JC Athletic Bureau state poll of California Community College Football Coaches Association representatives following a convincing 60-37 National Southern League win on Saturday over formerly No. 23 Palomar College. That game featured female placekicker Kiara Creta, who made 3C2A football history for the Tigers, kicking a 47-yard field goal and scoring eight total points, including conversions - all considered records for a woman placekicker. Riverside (5-0) took 12 of the 14 first place votes this week, totaling 348 points.
College of San Mateo (4-1) received the two remaining first place nods and 337 points. The Bulldogs moved up one place to No. 2 after giving previously No. 2 Diablo Valley College its first season setback, 51-10.
Southwestern College (5-0) jumped to No. 3, from eighth after its three-overtime 44-42 win over previously unbeaten San Diego Mesa (4-1), dropping the Olympians from fourth to sixth.
There will not be a poll next week. It is bye weekend for most of the 3C2A's 65 teams, with just five scheduled Southern California Football Association games and one NorCal makeup. However, it's already time for a showdown in the Pacific League. Unbeaten No. 25 Santa Monica (5-0) matches 2-0 league records at Grossmont on Saturday in an American Division contest.
Full competition resumes on Thursday, Oct. 8 with all eight Southern League teams in action, including No. 1 Riverside hosting No. 13 Chaffey (4-1).
Conference play gets underway in the Northern California Football Conference' five groups on October 8 with No. 21 Laney at No. 8 Sierra.
