Some shuffling at the top of the CCCSIA Football Poll; Fullerton still holds down No. 1 spot

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – There aren’t any newcomers to the top of the second California Community College Sports Information Association football poll released on Monday, but there is a bit of shakeup on the seats those teams occupy.
Top-ranked Fullerton (2-0), thanks to its 45-9 win against visiting Cerritos on Saturday, retained the No. 1 position this week, but a week after picking up seven of the available first-place votes managed to snag them all this week. American River (2-0), owned the other first-place tally in last week’s inaugural vote and went on the road for a 55-49 double-overtime win but it wasn’t enough to keep them from dropping to No. 4. That enabled Butte (2-0), after its big 31-21 win at No. 10 Laney on Friday to move up to No. 2 and Riverside City (2-0) to No. 3.
Saddleback won a 45-35 shootout against No. 9 Long Beach City to stay at No. 5 and Mt. San Antonio (2-0) rolled past No. 6 Ventura at home to jump two places while sending the Pirates into a tie for 14th in this week’s poll. College of San Mateo (2-0), El Camino (2-0), Fresno City (2-0) and Bakersfield (2-0) – which jumped from others receiving votes last week into the rankings this week - complete the top 10.
College of the Siskiyous is another newcomer to the poll. The Eagles edged perennial power City College of San Francisco, 20-14, in overtime, adding 22 points to last week’s total and move into the top 15 at No. 11. Long Beach City (1-1) and Laney (1-1) are tied for 12th while Ventura (1-1) and L.A. Valley (2-0) are tied for 14th.
This week’s matchups feature a pair of games between top-10 teams. Riverside will hit the road for a showdown at Bakersfield while College of San Mateo, which got 422 passing yards from quarterback Shawn Akina, will travel to the Central Valley to take on unbeaten Fresno City.
L.A. Valley is the only team among the top 15 that will have a bye this weekend.
(The poll is conducted by representatives of the CCCSIA and is evenly divided among both Northern California and Southern California region members. The rankings will be conducted on a weekly basis and will be released each Monday during the 2017 season).
