Rossi, Jones Named Week 2 NCFC Players of the Week
by Dave Silverstein
CHICO, Calif. — The NCFC National Division Offensive Player of the Week is Fresno quarterback Christian Rossi. The signal-caller completed 32 of 46 passes for 392 yards with five touchdowns and no interceptions as the Rams prevailed over Sierra in overtime.
Defense Player of the Week honors go to San Francisco defensive end Rod Jones, who racked up seven tackles - including two sacks and 3 ½ tackles for loss - and a pass breakup as CCSF shut out Laney to move to 2-0.
In the American Division, Danny Salazar hauled in eight catches for 180 yards and a score for Mendocino, also kicking two extra points. Los Medanos defensive back Marcus Fenderson capped off a tremendous day with a game-winning interception return for a score to beat Monterey; before that he had seven tackles, including a sack.
Week 3 action begins Saturday afternoon with a matchup of two undefeated Ram teams, as CCSF travels to Fresno. Kickoff is 1 p.m.
National Division
San Joaquin Delta at American River, 6 p.m.: After an inspired opening week, the Mustangs (1-1) struggled to defend in a Week 2 loss; ARC (1-1) reversed their fortunes as well in their second game, but came away with a blowout of De Anza.
Diablo Valley at Modesto, 6 p.m.: Of the five 2-0 teams in the NCFC, Diablo Valley faces its Big 8 rival in Week 3, as it goes up against the prodigious offense of the Pirates (1-1), which has scored 41 points in each of its first two games. DVC has allowed an average of 12 points per game to this point.
