Orange Coast, El Camino tight at top of baseball rankings
PASADENA, Calif. - Orange Coast College (19-3 record) holds on to the state No. 1 ranking team in this week's California Community College Sports Information Association State Top 20 Baseball poll. El Camino, 21-2 at No. 2, was just two points behind the Pirates while Santa Rosa (17-5) jumped to No. 3.
The rest of the top 10 starts with San Joaquin Delta at 4, Ohlone at 5, Cypress at 6, San Mateo at 7, Sacramento City jumping from 10 to 8, Palomar traveling from 15 to 9, and Grossmont moving up to 10 (from 11 last week).
Going into March 23 games, the conference races are as follows:
No. 11 Fresno City was a game back in the Central Valley Conference standings of 1st place and No. 16 Sequoias and unranked Merced. Current 5th placed Reedley is at No. 19 rank.
No. 12 Riverside City was a game back of #1 Orange Coast in the highly competitive Orange Empire race with #6 Cypress tied with Golden West two games back in third. Meanwhile, No. 20 Saddleback is in a 3-way tie for sixth place.
No. 13 Glendale was in a 3-way tie for first in the Western State East with Citrus and Canyons.
No. 14 Cosumnes River tops the Big 8 with games at hand over #8 Sacramento, #3 Santa Rosa and #4 SJ Delta.
No. 15 Chaffey holds a 1/2 game edge over East Los Angeles in a tight South Coast North race with Pasadena City a game back.
No. 17 LA Mission controls a 2-game lead over Bakersfield in the Western State East.
No. 18 Solano is in the middle of the pack early on in the Bay Valley race with Los Medanos, Marin, and Laney all in a 3-1 tie for the early 1st place lead.
No. 2 El Camino has a 1 game lead over LA Harbor in the South Coast South race.
No. 5 Ohlone, with the state's most wins at 22, is tied with Cabrillo to top the Coast Pacific.
No. 7 San Mateo has a commanding lead of 3 games in the Coast Golden Gate standings.
No. 10 Grossmont is a game ahead of No. 9 Palomar in a tight PCAC race with San Diego Mesa (7-0) also in the mix.
Lassen is just a 1/2 game ahead of Feather River in the Golden Valley standings.
Santa Barbara City is tied with Cuesta atop the Western State North in the early going.
