El Camino's Casanova named ABCA National Player of the Year
GREENSBORO, N.C. - Standout El Camino College catcher Trevor Casanova, who was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the 40th round of this month's Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, added another distinction to his baseball résumé on Wednesday when he was named the Pacific Association Division National Player of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
The Pacific Association represents the 115 baseball-playing schools in the California Community College Athletic Association and Northwest Athletic Conference.
Casanova was previously named the ABCA Southern California Player of the Year as well as the South Coast Conference South Division Player of the Year after hitting .390 with eight home runs, 14 doubles and seven triples. His 82 hits ranked second in the state while his triples were fourth and his 66 runs scored were first.
Defensively, he threw out 44% of the runners who attempted to steal on him.
Casanova has signed an NCAA National Letter of Intent with Cal State Northridge.
