Former Glendale Standout, Estrada, Earns All-Star Nod
Former Glendale Community College pitcher, Marco Estrada, earns his first All-Star appearance in his 9th MLB season and second year with the Toronto Blue Jays. The right-handed pitcher has a 2.93 ERA on the year with a 5-3 record after 16 starts. Estrada is also second in the AL in WHIP (0.99) and leads the MLB in opponent's batting average (.173) with only 64 hits over 104.1 innings pitched.
Estrada played for Glendale Community College during the 2002 & 2003 seasons where he was an All-Western State Conference selection. His freshman year he had 15 appearances with a 2.87 ERA over 37.2 innings out of the bullpen. In '03 Estrada had 13 starts with a 7-3 record and a 2.79 ERA. He then transferred to Long Beach State and in 2005 was selected by the Washington Nationals in the sixth round.
A day after his selection to the All-Star game, Estrada learned that he will not be able to participate and is instead heading for the 15-day DL due to a lingering back injury.
