A case can be made that the Orange Coast's pitchers feel at home in Fresno during the month of May after shutting out both #1 seeds at the CCCAA State Championship.
Orange Coast struck first in the bottom of the third inning. Jake Barnett started by walking the No. 9 hitter Robert Longtree. Jeff Nellis sacrifice bunted Longtree to second base. Chaneng Varela then doubled to right-center, scoring Longtree. Later in the inning, the Pirates loaded the bases but Jake Barnett pitched his way out of trouble without any additional runs being scored.
The Pirates added a couple of runs in the bottom of the fifth when Chaneng Varela lined a single through the right side of the infield. Tommy Bell got hit by an inside fastball to put runners on first and second. A ground out by Jack Kruger moved both runners up a base. Stephen Corona brought home Varela on a sacrifice fly to left field. James McLellan brought home the final run of the inning with a ground ball through the middle of the infield.
Orange Coast has advanced to the finals on Monday at 11 a.m. while Palomar will play Delta at 5:45pm.
