TORRANCE – An impressive season for the Rio Hondo College duo of Nadine Oronoz and Faith Lee came to an end after a pair of tough matches at the Southern California Regional Pair Championships. The two-day event was held at El Camino College in Torrance.

Oronoz and Lee, seeded No. 26 for the regionals, opened up play on Friday against one of the top teams from the Orange Empire Conference and suffered a 21-8, 21-12 defeat to No. 7-seed Jaclyn Sanchez and Emily Guenter of Irvine Valley College.

In the consolation bracket, their season came to a close with a 21-15, 21-7 loss to No. 10-seed Bella Johnson and Corinne Tommeraason from Santa Barbara City College.

Rio Hondo head coach Teddi Esko said despite the losses, it was a great achievement for them to finish the season as a top-32 team in Southern California in just their first season of play.

"We are very proud of Nadine and Faith," said Esko. "They accomplished so much in their freshman season of Rio Beach.  Their future is bright on the sand, we're looking forward to next season."
