Women’s Soccer: Rio Hondo closes Ventura tourney with win over Clovis

Sophomore Zitlali Jimenez' goal late in the first half would prove to be all the offense Rio Hondo College would need to defeat Clovis Community College by a final score of 1-0 on Friday to close out the New Balance Community College Classic at Ventura College.

The Roadrunners went unbeaten at the tournament, going 1-0-1 after a 1-1 tie with Hartnell College on Thursday.

Jimenez broke free for Friday's lone goal in the 32nd minute, taking the pass from sophomore Vivian Viramontes and beat Clovis goalkeeper Angela Petrakis with her shot.

Clovis outshot Rio Hondo by an 11-7 margin in the contest, but goalkeeper Anaguisel Ramos was up to challenge for the Roadrunners. She totaled seven saves to post Rio Hondo's first shutout of the season.

The Roadrunners will have a week off until its next contest. The Roadrunners travel to Orange Coast College next Friday (Sep. 6) for a 3 p.m. non-conference game. Rio Hondo will play at Ventura on Sep. 10 before hosting Fullerton College in its home opener on Sep. 13 at 6 p.m.
