Pirates cruise to 8-1 win in OEC opener
MISSION VIEJO -- The Orange Coast College women's tennis team opened Orange Empire Conference play with a convincing 8-1 win at Saddleback College on Tuesday afternoon.
For the Pirates (6-1, 1-0 in the OEC), it was their fifth straight victory, all in convincing fashion. Tuesday was Saddleback's first match of the season (0-1).
In doubles play, Coast jumped out to a 3-0 advantage as the teams of Logan Koitka/Madeleine Veltri (8-4), Jade Moreno/Ruth Salter (8-2) and Tiffany Tu/Allison Dobrea (8-6) swept through the Bobcats' duos.
It was more of the same in singles play as the Pirates earned straight-set wins from Kaitka (6-2, 6-1), Veltri (6-2, 1-0 retired), Moreno (6-0, 6-1), Salter (6-0, 6-2) and Dobrea (6-2, 6-4).
OCC will return to action on Thursday, March 3 at Riverside City College (2 p.m.) before returning to the OCC Tennis Complex on Thursday, March 10 against Saddleback (2 p.m.).
