Women’s tennis finishes strong


The Saddleback women's tennis season came to an end on Friday at the 3C2A State Tournament in Ojai.  The Bobcats had one doubles team advance to the round of 16.

Saddleback finished up a successful season by making it all the way to the final Friday of the 2023 season.   The doubles team of Sydney Grove and Ainsley Beresford made it to the round of 16 before falling to Orange Coast College's Maddy Veltri and Logan Koitka (3-6, 2-6).  It finished up a great run for the doubles team that won a match on Thursday (6-1, 6-0) in the round of 64 and another on Friday in the round of 32 in a third set tiebreaker (6-7, 6-2, 10-7). 

Saddleback had another team advance to the round of 32 in Brooke Buser and Ellie Maruna.  Buser and Maruna won their opening match on Friday against a pair from Antelope Valley (6-4, 6-4) before falling in the round of 32 against a team from College of the Sequoias (2-6, 4-6).

Saddleback's top singles player for the week was Grove, who won twice on Thursday and advanced to the round of 32 before losing to Orange Coast's Maddy Veltri on Friday (0-6, 2-6).

Saddleback finished the season 8-3 overall in team play, making it to the Southern California Regional Playoffs for the first time since 2011.
