(Van Nuys, CA) Taking the field for the first time since November 23, 2019, Mt. SAC (1-0) returned in force with a resounding 72-0 season-opening victory over host Los Angeles Valley (0-1) on Saturday.

The Mounties didn't take long to put points on the board as, at the 12:22 mark of the first quarter, Keoua Kauni scored on a 27-yard run. The scoring came quickly and often after that, as Mt. SAC had a 42-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

A stifling Mountie defense not only held the Monarchs scoreless, but also held them to only 35 yards of total offense on the night (59 yards passing, minus 24 yards rushing).

Behind a ground attack that included 14 ball carriers, Mt. SAC tallied 288 yards rushing on 42 carries with six touchdowns. Nicholas Floyd led the team with 63 yards on three carries with a touchdown, while teammates Marcus Brown (49 yards, eight carries, one TD) and Jawon Richards (47 yards, two carries, one TD) also performed well.

Through the air, the Mounties gained 183 yards behind the quarterback trio of Alex Flores (4-for-5, 86 yards, two TDs), Ike Udengwu III (5-for-8, 75 yards, TD), and Ethan Hery (2-for-3, 22 yards).

Shemar Savage had 73 yards receiving on two catches for Mt. SAC, both of which resulted in a touchdown (45 and 28 yards). Reginald Anderson (one catch) and Kato Seley (two catches) accounted for 24 and 22 yards receiving, respectively.

Nathaniel Ferguson and Jonovan Tillis led the Mountie defense with three solo tackles each, while teammates Marcelle Logan, Matthew Toriz, and Inoke Katoa each had a quarterback sack. Mickael Johnson made an interception and returned it 62 yards for Mt. SAC.

On the night, the Mounties amassed 471 yards of total offense.

Next up for Mt. SAC is a road matchup on Saturday, Sept. 11, with Saddleback (1-0), which defeated Glendale 58-12 to open its season. The kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
