Behind Second-Half Surge, Mt. SAC Men's Soccer Advances to Second Round of Playoffs

(Walnut, CA) Top-seed Mt. SAC (19-0-3) rolled to a 6-2 win over No. 16 Norco (8-8-4) in a first round match of the California Community College Athletic Association Southern California Regionals at the Mt. SAC Soccer Complex on Saturday, Nov. 23.

Tied 2-2 at halftime, the Mounties exploded for four goals in the second half on scores from four different players, including Paul Iniguez (Guilherme Farias assist), Angel Santoyo (Iniguez assist), Jesus Garcia (Brandon Pineda assist), and Travis Piceno (Alan Piceno assist). Cazares (Ivan Escobar assist) and Santoyo (Cazares assist) accounted for the first-half scores for Mt. SAC.

Alain Hernandez (45 minutes, three saves) and John Samano (45 minutes, six saves) split time in goal for the Mounties.

Mt. SAC will host No. 9 Santa Ana (10-6-5) in the second round of the CCCAA Southern California Regionals on Tuesday or Wednesday, Nov. 26 or 27, at a yet-to-be-determined time. The Dons advanced to the second round on penalty kicks, 3-1, against No. 8 Santa Barbara City (10-4-6) after playing to a 2-2 draw.
