After ascending to the top of the CCCAA rankings Moday, the West Valley volleyball team faced a major test Tuesday night on the road in Rocklin. With stalwart frontliners Belen Morgan and Tristin Sahlie sidelined, the Vikings used their depth and teamwork to claim a 3-2 nailbiter at #19 Sierra.

Katie Kishton sparkled on the stat sheet, connecting on 14 kills,12 digs,  four aces, and a pair of blocks. But she wasn't the lone highlight. Taylor Tullo recorded 13 kills, nine digs, a pair of assists and an ace, while Sydney Rogers had 38 assists, three digs, two kills, two aces, and assisted on a pair of blocks. Kate Balckwell keyed the Viking defense with a team-high 17 digs.

The Vikings (6-1) dominated the all-important first set 25-11 and then stumbled in the second, falling 25-15 to a Wolverine squad far better than its 3-6 record. WVC took a back-and-forth third set 25-20 and then dropped an epic fourth 25-23. West Valley pulled away in the fifth set to escape with the 15-11 clincher.

West Valley's early season road show continues withe a pair of matches at the Folsom Lake Classic Sept. 18 against Folsom Lake (5-5) at 2pm and defending state champion Feather River (10-1) at 4pm.
