COD Men’s Basketball remains undefeated in Conference, sinks the Vikings, 89-73

COD (12-4; 4-0) remained undefeated in the early going of Conference play, as the Roadrunners hit 13 three's on their way to another win, knocking off the Barstow Vikings (2-14; 0-4), 89-73.

The Roadrunners showed every reason why they are the #18 team in the state, as they had all five starters in double figures, escaping the first half with a five point lead, 43-38 and recalibrating at the break. Eventually, putting some distance between themselves and the visitors in the second half.

Sophomore starting guard John Rich (Palm Springs H.S.) led the Roadrunners with 21 points on 7 of 12 shooting from the field and an impressive 5 of 9 from beyond the arc, along with snagging three steals.

Sophomore starting forward Kavonte Kinney (Cathedral City H.S.) contributed 17 points on 6 of 14 shooting and sophomore starting guard Joshua Jones (Moreno Valley Valley View) added 15 points on 6 of 8 shooting, going 3 of 5 from three-point range.

Freshman starting guard Devlin Adams (Moreno Valley H.S.) made key contributions in multiple categories, as he put up 12 points on 3 of 11 shooting and was a perfect 6 for 6 from the charity stripe, leading the team in assists with eight and snagging three steals in the win.

Sophomore starting guard Sam Skipper (Perris H.S.) added 10 points on 3 of 14 shooting.

Freshman guard Antonio Holley lll (Santa Monica H.S.) was the leading scorer off of the bench with eight points on 3 of 8 shooting and sophomore forward Kristopher Howard (Palm Springs H.S.) led the team in blocks with two and total boards with eight.

The next game for Desert is on Wednesday, January 15 at 7p at the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles in an Inland Empire Athletic Conference match. The next home game for the Roadrunners is on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, January 20, where Desert will continue Inland Empire Athletic Conference play by hosting the Chaffey Panthers of Rancho Cucamonga at 3p.
